Lovely Rakshashis and Witches-Part XII

By: Tania Bhattacharyya

A teacher admitted,``We do as we are told. Ruma Auntie is absent today. You see, there will be no problem.’’

Many qualified teachers have been fired by her-mainly for silly reasons and ego problems. Ruma Rakshashi did not give any appointment or dismissal letter. This was absolutely illegal.

Her house spoke volumes of dishonest wealth. Her husband looked so comical- a bald-headed alcoholic Uncle Podger like person.

Ruma Rakshashi made the students sit for two hours on the floor. She was so primitive! Could she not have spent some money for decent benches? If any student moved, if you just heard indecent Ranjani Rakshashi’s insensible comments! When she taught she always shouted on the top of her voice. My God! What a headachy class !

Fairy Conscience was very reasonable and level-headed, also quite sensible , she was sophisticated ...she preferred quality over quantity.........her choices were very sophisticated....to gluttonous Rakshashis, such a person appeared  to be strange ........They did not have any charisma, any sophistication in them....their upbringing, mentality and surroundings were backward and different, neither did they have the faculty of improvisation, alternate or out-of –the box thinking-they have not thought...........they have just done..............they did not think...............they just did

Of course, a swan would appear strange to a bunch of crows, just as a bunch of crows appear strange to a swan

They did a lot of bakwaz but could not speak up............. Their voices shrank if they were told to speak up..........

They have always tried to be ``Everybody.’’ They have not tried to be `` Somebody.’’

They inwardly appreciated Fairy Conscience. Some started to refuse and be vocal about their preferences, what was right and what was wrong.

Poor Rakshashis! They always had a problem in digesting and accepting the way they actually were , what they ate, what they saw, how others were- that is why their mouth and anal apertures were hyperactive.

A main purpose of education, according to Tagore is to be in harmony with yourself and your surroundings. This could only happen if you are open-minded, receptive and tolerant. The Rakshashis were not in harmony with themselves, neither with their surroundings- their education had not taught them to do so.

Lots of homework.......lots of eating............lots of hours...............

But inability to decide.................inability to think.....inability to understand........choose....................inability to digest.........................inability to assimilate.......................................................always suffering from low self-esteem....................they used to show that they ``get along’’-but they always competed among each other-they did not genuinely like or love each other............the outward show of affection and friendship was nothing but a bit too much of `nyakamo’ out of bounds..............laughters were forced, overdone.......................not genuine, but artificial.

One teacher had started becoming influenced positively by Fairy Conscience. One day, Ruma Rakshashi while making monthly payment to all the teachers, cautioned her, `` Your checking is the worst.’’ She understood. Actually there was no problem in her checking. She was following Fairy Conscience.

Ruma Rakshashi had asked Fairy Conscience, `` When would you have your own institution?’’

A newcomer was recruited- she was a Chinese . She was qualified, decent and quiet. She was very short and thin, but she was not a Rakshashi.

When Ruma Rakshashi saw the newcomer, she felt comfortable and said, `` Yes, she fits in.’’

Keya Rakshashi said referring to the Chinese lady and Fairy Conscience, ``The qualified girls are so humble. They come, do their work and go away.’’

Yes, it is true that crows outnumber swans. A swan will stay with crows as much as required.................why will they waste their time mingling with crooked foolish crows?
