The Silence and The Storm: Chapter 13

The grand doors slammed open with a crash that stole the music’s sweetness.

The Baroness stormed in, her eyes burning like wildfire. She moved through the crowd like a storm, her gaze fixed on Evelyne. The whispers turned to gasps, then silence.

How dare she stand here, like she belongs?, The Baroness’s thoughts crackled with venom.

She pointed an accusing finger.

“You think you can dance with princes when you’re nothing but a servant? A nobody dressed in stolen dreams?”

Her words cut the air like knives, meant to shame Evelyne before the entire court.

But Evelyne’s heart didn’t break. The Button beneath her dress glowed faintly, steady like a heartbeat.

From the corner of her eye, she sensed the Demon King’s smile—a dark promise hidden in the shadows. The Baroness’s hatred was the perfect fuel.

The ballroom held its breath.
