BABA NANAK

BABA NANAK

Long time ago, the world was dark,

People prayed with greed in heart.

Kings were proud, the poor were weak,

Myths and lies were all they would speak.

Then Guru Nanak, the saviour was born one day,

To show the world a brighter way.

He was born in an orthodox home,

But his thoughts were free to roam.

They asked him to wear the ( janeu) sacred thread,

He smiled and gently shook his head.

Give me a thread that won’t get old,

That won’t get dirty, tear or fold.

At Sultanpur Lodhi, one calm day,

Guru Nanak went to pray.

In River Bein, he disappeared,

Three days passed and the town feared.

Then he returned with light to share.

He said, “There’s one God, kind and true,

Who lives in me and in all of you.”

“Ik Onkar, Satnam, Karta Purakh…”

Then he met Marjana, called so for the evil eye,

All his siblings had passed, he alone survived.

Guru Nanak saw his heart so true,

And named him Mardana, meaning “mortal”

4 directions 4 journeys in total

They met the poor, the rich, the weak,

And spoke of truth to all who would seek.

In the end I must say

No mix of 26 alphabets can describe my Baba Nanak !!
