Ch. 5: -The Enigma

I was coming out of Dr. Arora’s clinic, suddenly I got attacked by a mobile thief’s gang. But the thieves were not aware of the ass kicking they were about to get. I gave them a nice ass whooping and so they all fled.

“I should report this to the police.” I muttered.

 

I went to the police and then Sub-Inspector Anuj recognized my face and he decided to barge in to tag me for questioning.

 

Anuj and Vijay enter the scene with me being seated in the chair and then.

“I’ll be damned, it’s that kid.” Vijay recognized me.

 

I was further surprised.

 

“Look, I just came here to report an attempted theft. I did nothing wrong. Am I in some kind of trouble here officer?” I asked.

 

“We heard that you can for see future events in real time, like a premonition. We need your help in a case.” Officer Vijay told me the truth.

“Help you? Look, I am just here for my treatment.” I hesitated.

 

“We can really use your help son! I am from the paranormal wing and I too see things like you do.” Rudra entered the scene and escalated the offer.

 

“I am sorry, but….” I paused.

 

“Rudra Aiyyar, Paranormal investigator and the author of….” As he was about to brag, I interrupted him.

 

“Wait, The Rudra Aiyyar, the infamous Ghosthunter and the author of BEYOND THE REALM OF THE DEAD? Big fan! I will help you, one condition my mom shall not find out.” I had my own priorities to check.

 

Rudra then agreed to keep things confidential.

 

8:00 PM, Shetty homestay

 

Mom was worried and she asked.

 

“How did things go? Did they find the thieves yet?”

“Not yet maa, but they will soon.” Had to give a different answer.

 

She was still unaware of the real threat looming around the corner. The ENIGMA was still at large.

 

Back at the Police station, the team was being sceptical of Rudra working with Aryan. Especially Vijay.

 

“Are you sure about the kid Rudra? I mean, how come he track our killer or his next victims?” Vijay was asking the obvious question.

 

“There are things in the human realm that are beyond our understanding, but this kid, he walks the both worlds, the one of humans and of the dead.” Rudra did his own homework on me it seems.

 

“So, you are saying that Aryan can….” As Vijay was saying this, Rudra interrupts and

“Yes, he was chosen for a higher purpose, the keep the evil ones at the bay and the ENIGMA is one such entity that only Aryan can defeat and banish him back to hell which is why we need to trust his guts and gumption.” He was so damn confident about my powers.

 

Rudra was ready to bet on my powers in apprehending or even defeating THE ENIGMA and banishing his soul to hell.

 

“So, how do we catch this ENIGMA guy? Do you have a plan?” Vijay was asking Rudra.

 

“We need to catch him red handed in the act and which is why I might have to make use of Amaira again.” Bad idea but might work.

 

“Make her a scapegoat? Are you serious? She could die if we make one mistake!” he was right about it.

 

“Not if the kid helps.” Rudra with his own mad confidence.

 

And so, the plan to catch the killer in the act was initiated.

 

Amaira’s Apartment 6 pm.

 

They laid of the plan to Amaira but she was more than reluctant.

 

“You guys can’t be serious, I can’t become a scapegoat in your scheme, I have a movie deal next.” She wasn’t dumb for sure.

 

“Not if you are dead, look, we don’t want to bring you any harm but to catch him, we need to put this plan together.” Vijay giving her assurance.

 

“Guess I have no choice then.” Finally, she agreed to the plan.

My head then suddenly start tingling.

“Not again.” I muttered.

 

“Hey kid, you okay?” Rurdra looked at me and asked.

 

Something was off about this whole plan and I got another premonition beforehand.

 

“I don’t know if this is a right plan, what something goes wrong?” me with my own concerns.

 

“Trust your instinct, kid.” The old guy was confident enough.

 

Rudra is looking at Amaira through the binocular at a distant location; he then speaks on her earpiece.

 

“Are you okay?”

 

Dumb question but she was still unfazed.

 

“What can possibly go wrong?” Amaira tried to hide her fear.

 

And then he started slithering in the shadows like a coiled viper, The Enigma!

 

Amaira is in shock and awe as the Enigma meets her horrid gaze.

 

The viper was hungry for blood, the blood of Amaira.

 

“Hello!” the killer made a wide grin then.

 

SFX: -AHHHHH (AMAIRA SCREAMING)
