Misperceptions about talent
When we decide to do something new, then we try to find our talent. Why do we struggle to find our talent? One of the reasons is we listen from our elders about talent. After listening, we deliberately try to find it. If you play very good chess, can you call it a talent? When you first time played chess, you didn’t even know about its rules. Slowly you made it your habit and people started calling it your talent. If you were not a particularly punctual person then you didn’t achieve this title of talent. Talent is nothing. This idea is flawed. This is the greatest error in which we are imprisoned. We become someone’s adherent, when someone conspicuously criticizes ourselves and focusing his/her thoughts upon us and we blindly say we are not blind. It doesn’t make any change. We have to think from our own mind. When we start asking questions to ourselves then we are ready to learn and understand new things deeply. We hear the word ‘Talent’ and started discovering it in ourselves instead of knowing what it means. Our lack of awareness renders us unable of answering to it. A very genius person said to me and usually he say—‘ Practice makes a man perfect .’ We are utterly unknown with this.If you had not learned the rules of chess and had not made it your habit, then you would not have been called a talented person. But how does this happen? To our families and friends it means: an immense power which remains inside our soul. If it is a power then how it will not work? Now we are baffled in an awkward dilemma. In order to amplify our talent, our brain is constantly racing but in order to get its authentic meaning, our brain becomes tranquil. There is a word which needs to be understood and that is ‘hobbies .’ Our hobbies are those which we love and we are anxiously wanted that they regularly happen in our lives. For instance—when you first time saw the chess it seemed to be something strange. Next time you tried to play it, you liked the game and you adopted it as your habit. It means it became your hobby. If it is one of your hobbies then why are you running after being talented? When it becomes your hobby, you want to play it better and try to flourish your game for which you practice a lot. If you had talent then you didn’t have to do any practice. So where is your talent? Our mind is completely confined in frivolous things rather than to understand significant one. We have termed practice and hobby as talent which needs to be erased and think differently what does it actual mean. That’s why don’t call yourself a talented person just call yourself a practicing and habitual person because consistency makes you able to do something new and it comes only because of practice.
