Why Do People Treat Spirituality Like a Business Deal—Only to Troll or Abandon It When It Doesn’t ‘Work’? Explore the Misconceptions.
Spirituality is not a life insurance policy that will automatically settle all your life’s debts merely by performing rituals or Karma Kanda without embracing its essence or transforming yourself.
Most people think it is a path to resolving all their struggles and that it will grant them this or that. Thus, they must realize that going to the temple is not a business transaction.
This is why people, especially the younger generation, are losing interest in spirituality—because once they realize they are not getting what they want, they question the point of being spiritual, religious, performing rituals, or even visiting temples.
Walking the path of spirituality means exploring every possible way to transform yourself, enabling you to unleash the true potential that lies within.
Without the pure intent of walking the spiritual path, the guiding dimension—also known as the dispeller of darkness (Guru)—which resides within you, does not awaken. It awakens only when Mother Nature sees that the quest, along with the intent, has reached a point where one can no longer live without it. At that moment, it becomes clear that the fire for self-transformation has been ignited. When this happens, Mother Nature (Prakriti) will carve a path that leads to your evolution.
So even if you pray, pray for what you need, not for what you want.
Need vs. Want
The realization of need arises only when you become intelligent enough to recognize the conditioned frameworks and patterns set by society and wise enough to distance yourself from them. This realization shifts your perception toward aspects that contribute to your evolution.
As a result, whenever you pray, you will naturally say to the Divine: “You know better what I need, so give me only what I truly require. But before granting it to me, make me deserving of it, so that I can handle it responsibly and use it only for the right reasons. Let me share it only with those who genuinely need it and are striving for it, always remembering that I am merely a medium—you are the true giver.”
People who have become conditioned products of societal frameworks are often trapped in the concept of want. Thus, they constantly suffer because they fear breaking away from these imposed structures.
Ultimately, NEED transforms, evolves, and liberates you, while WANT restricts, conditions, and suppresses you—eventually leading to suffering.
True Spiritual Evolution
If you find yourself evolving in terms of becoming truly inclusive and compassionate toward every life around you, it means you are now becoming truly spiritual.
However, this does not mean that you have abandoned practicality or that you will blindly be “goody-goody” with everyone. Instead, it signifies that you have matured to a point where you understand the deeper mechanics of life and how it will support you across lifetimes.
You act whenever necessary, in every possible way, but you do not become illusioned when dealing with lower energies, people, or chetanas (consciousnesses) that operate at a lower level than yours. You now understand when to be flexible and when to be firm, ensuring that your chetana (consciousness) does not fall into the trap of those whose chetanas are already clouded by illusion.
