A visit to the zoo

Situated in far-off corner

Of the urban landscape.

Wild animals in the cages

Looked askance at

Our unwelcome presence.

They were slightly amused

And smiled wryly to see

The real animals outside.

Colourful birds twittered

In apparently jolly mood to

Announce their freedom unfettered.

Giant jumbos were enjoying

The cool drops of water

Stored in the river’s bosom.

All were kept in thralldom

To live harmoniously

Before they bade adieu.
