BLIND LOVE AND REAL LOVE
There is a well-known saying in English: “Love is blind.”
Here, our hero and heroine are lovers—deeply in love with each other. They became acquainted through Instagram. Their prolonged relationship eventually led them to decide to marry and live together, despite the dissent of their families. Their families did not like this alliance, especially the girl’s family.
From the beginning, her parents advised their daughter to give up the relationship. But the girl was reluctant to do so, as she had nursed and nurtured dreams of a life with her lover.
Months passed. They rejoiced as love birds.
One day, her mother quietly said to her:
“Dear daughter, yesterday one of our close relatives approached us with a good marriage proposal for you. The groom is working abroad in a multinational company. He has completed his MBA, and his family is well established. He is also a handsome young man.
“If this alliance is accepted, after the marriage you could travel abroad with him and live near his workplace. Look at your lover. He has neither a good job nor a sound financial background. If you marry him against our advice, there is no doubt that your future life may become miserable. Do not expect any help from us if that happens.”
She ended her words with this warning.
That night, before going to sleep, the girl carefully thought about her future and came to a conclusion.
She thought to herself:
“Leading a better married life is important for my future survival. Remaining lovers and eventually becoming a married couple while neglecting my parents and relatives may sometimes lead to a bitter future.”
From then on, she became increasingly careful to keep her distance from her lover. She deliberately tried to avoid him, although she continued chatting with him as usual.
Her lover noticed the discomfort in her recent behaviour. He desperately asked her about it, but she remained silent. She was no longer interested in contacting or chatting with him.
One day, after gathering enough courage, she gently told him about her mother’s discussion regarding the new marriage proposal.
“Look, I cannot deny my parents’ words, as they are my guardians, and I respect them. If I neglect and desert them, it would be wrong both for me and for them.
“No, I could never commit such a sin.
“So, my dear, for the time being, we may loosen the bond between us. It may be advisable for both of us. Please forgive me.”
She begged his forgiveness in an apologetic tone.
Hearing these words, he was stunned. He stood like a statue for a while, without movement or words.
Then he burst out angrily:
“What are you saying, my dear? For the last two years, we have loved each other deeply and nurtured dreams of our marriage. I have sincerely accepted you as my future wife. I cannot imagine breaking our relationship.
“There is no other girl or thought of another marriage in my life. Either I live with you, or, if that is not possible, I have even thought of ending my life. I will no longer follow you or harass you. If you have decided to break our relationship and love bond, let it be so.”
He ended his sorrowful words and stood there gloomily.
He had never expected such a heartbreaking reply from his beloved.
His bitter words echoed in her softened mind for a long time. She sadly returned home, carrying the echoes of his haunting words with her.
From this incident, she learned a painful lesson: love is not a child’s play that can be built one day and broken the next according to one’s changing interests.
The girl found herself caught between her mother and her lover. On one side was her mother’s concern for a better future; on the other were the harsh and threatening words of her lover.
She lost sleep at night. The mental stress and agony eventually led her to seek treatment from a psychiatrist.
Perhaps, her love had been blind from the beginning.
