A Beautiful Friendship

Piya and Jiya met on their first day of kindergarten. They were both nervous and scared, but they bonded over their love for the same cartoon show. As they grew older, their bond only grew stronger. They went through everything together, from braces and pimples to their first crushes and heartbreaks.

In middle school, they joined the same sports team and discovered a shared passion for soccer. They practiced together every day after school, pushing each other to become better. They even started a tradition of going to their favorite pizza place after every game, win or lose.

In high school, they were inseparable. They took every class together and even signed up for the same extracurricular activities. They dreamed of going to the same college and studying abroad together.

But life had other plans. Piya’s parents got a job offer in a different state, and she had to move away at the end of their junior year. Jiya was devastated, but they promised to stay in touch and visit each other as often as possible.

Piya settled into her new school, but it was never the same without Jiya. She made new friends, but they didn’t understand her as Jiya did. They didn’t have the same inside jokes or memories.

Meanwhile, Jiya tried to keep herself busy with soccer and school, but she couldn’t shake the feeling of loneliness. She missed Piya’s presence and wished she could just call her up and talk for hours like they used to.

One day, Piya called Jiya out of the blue. They hadn’t talked in months, but it felt like no time had passed at all. They caught up on each other’s lives, and Piya told Jiya about a study abroad program she was thinking of applying to.

Jiya couldn’t believe it. She had always dreamed of studying abroad but had never seriously considered it. Piya convinced her to apply, and they promised to visit each other if they were both accepted.

To their surprise, they were both accepted into the program. They were thrilled to be able to explore Europe together and make new memories. They traveled to different countries, trying new foods and experiencing different cultures.

As they sat on a beach, watching the sunset, Piya turned to Jiya and said, “You know, even though we’ve been apart for so long, it feels like we never left each other’s side.”

Jiya smiled, “That’s because we haven’t. We may have been physically apart, but our friendship never wavered.”

Piya and Jiya graduated from college and pursued different career paths, but they still talked every day. They continued to support each other through life’s ups and downs, celebrating each other’s successes and comforting each other during the tough times.

Years turned into decades, and they both started families of their own. They still made time to see each other, taking vacations together and attending each other’s milestones.

On their 50th birthdays, Piya and Jiya planned a trip to their favorite pizza place from their middle school days. As they sat across from each other and reminisced about their childhood, Piya said, “I can’t believe it’s been over 40 years since we met.”

Jiya smiled, “Me neither. But I’m grateful for every single day we’ve been friends.”

As they sat there, laughing and talking, it was clear that their friendship was just as strong as ever. They had been through so much together, and they knew that no matter what life threw at them, they would always have each other.
