TWICE OF EVERY WISH
Terrible scorching rays not letting my sweats to stop. It was probably 1pm at afternoon while I was returning from my university. I reached at the station where I take my second bus. I checked the app to get the timing of next bus. “17 minutes more” It showed. When the day is already going in a bad way, hectic and torrid & you have to stand for more minutes to get a bus. “My God! what can be worse than that?”
I leaned on the wall and was waiting for those 17 minutes to pass. Those each minute felt like one decade in that scorching heat. Out of nowhere a woman with her baby came to my side for some money. She looked pale and thirsty. “Can you please buy me a water bottle?” she asked. “Of course” I replied. Whoever would have said that. Those strong heat rays can make a person thirsty after drinking a litre of water. I followed to the next shop to buy her a water bottle. 20 rupees it was. Not a big amount to cure someone’s thirst. She greeted me with a pleased smile when I gave her the bottle. What more des a human seek for? “Finally I had a good moment in my whole day”. I murmured to myself. But my luck had some other plans. Maybe. Because just a minute later when I dipped my hand into the bag, my hands reached to no money. I started searching but was no money left with me. “Shit!” I was in a hurry today while coming to college. So I didn’t bought any extra money with me. It took 25 rupees to reach my home. I spent my 20 rupees for buying the water bottle for that lady. Now I’m left with 5 rupees. Those not-so-big amount 20 rupees was being a big amount for me at that time. I checked the bus time. It was 2 min more. Maybe my day has been written to get worse and worse. In such stressful situation, left with no hopes, only one name comes to my mind always. I took out my phone. Opened the text box and typed “Pikachu”- my sister. Cute and helpful as a pikachu.
“Hey! Can you please give me 25 rupees”- I typed.
I usually don’t keep money in my bank account. But it was the only thing which could save me. Bus came and I stepped into the bus. Hope she checks my message in time. My phone ringed with a new message pop-up. Please god it should be her. I opened my phone screen in a hope of getting a reply from her. Maybe “what happened?” or “Why all of a sudden?”. I took my seat so I can elaborate my current situation. But when I unlocked my screen, it was a different notification-
“Sibani Pattnaik sent you 50 rupees”
Not even a single question? And I got double of what I asked. I smiled. Strange enough to see those cute things but not strange enough when it is from her.
……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..
The next day I was at the college, with those small group of my friends. Laughing and chuckling. We are group of three friends. It was the birthday of one girl among us. So me and the other friend, we decided to give her a surprise at her room. After the class ended. and the birthday girl went to her room, me and my friend went to buy her a cake and some chocolates and flowers. “Shit! not again”. I forgot my purse at home where I was having my money. The careless me is surely going to drown someday. I couldn’t even admit this to my friend. That I have no money with me. It sounds shameful as we already planned for me. While she was busy choosing the cake, I slightly tucked my phone and typed again ..pikachu… the only saviour of me.
“Hey! Can you please give me 200 rupees? :/”
Its a bigger amount this time. She deserves reason. I should type-out.
“Sorry for this……..” I added “I actually forgot my purse at home and I require for buying cake for my friend’s birthd…”
I wasn’t done with my typing when I got a pop-up notification.
“Sibani Pattnaik sent you 500 rupees.”
WHAT THE HECK? 500 rupees? I haven’t even gave her the reason why I need the money. My day starts with going to classes and ends with getting back. I take enough money for travelling and snacks. She very well knows I have nothing more spend on. Then why do I need 200 rupees instantly could have been her question atleast. Who the hell sends double money without even asking the reason? Of course her!
“You okay?” my friend asked.
“Thankfully Yes!” I sighed.
After buying the cake, I texted my sister. “Hey! 500 rupees? I just asked you for 200 silly! Just 200 rupees for my friend’s birthday.” I hit on the send button.
“Yeah! 200 for her and rest are yours :)”– she replied.
Its not even MY birthday. But who cares? When you have a sister like her, you don’t need to be the birthday girl to receive gifts. She choose to gift me almost everyday. How lucky I’m.
“Aww.. Thank you! :3” I sent. “I LOVE YOU” was silent.
