16.5 Who is Morarji Desai?

How do we know Morarji Desai: we know him as a prominent Indian independence activist and politician who served as the fourth Prime Minister of India from 1977 to 1979.

What he really was: I think he was an enmit. The biggest thing that made me realize this is that he leaked information about RAW’s mission to stop Pakistan from becoming a nuclear power. Many people say it was a mistake by Morarji Desai. Especially modern Hindu enmits say this to hide Morarji Desai’s fault. But I think he knowingly leaked the information to the Pakistani government. Because of this, Pakistan was able to become a nuclear power and present itself more strongly in front of India. As a result, India could no longer destabilize Pakistan easily.

How people got to know about morarji dasai’s leaking raw’s mission in pakistan:

People got to know about the alleged leak of a RAW (Research and Analysis Wing) mission to Pakistan by then-Prime Minister Morarji Desai primarily through public revelations made by high-ranking intelligence officials and journalists over the years, most notably R.N. Kao, the first chief of RAW, and later confirmed by other sources.

Here is how the information came to light:

  • R.N. Kao’s Revelation: The initial, significant claim was reportedly made by R.N. Kao himself. According to accounts from other officials and journalists, Kao allegedly informed the media (or within intelligence circles) that Desai had, in fact, confirmed the existence of a RAW operation in Pakistan to Pakistani officials.
  • Confirmation by Senior Officials: Several retired senior intelligence officials and bureaucrats, including B. Raman (former Additional Secretary in RAW), have since written about the incident or confirmed the allegations in their memoirs and articles. They detailed how Desai, in a bid to improve relations with Pakistan and acting on a personal conviction that intelligence agencies were a waste of money, had a candid conversation with Pakistani President General Zia-ul-Haq during a meeting.
  • The “Candid” Admission: During their  face-to-face meeting conversation, Desai is said to have revealed India’s intelligence presence in Pakistan to Zia. This revelation is widely believed to have compromised and dismantled valuable RAW intelligence networks in Pakistan.
  • Media and Books: The story gained wider public knowledge through books by intelligence experts and journalists, which cited these inside accounts. These publications brought the previously internal intelligence matter into the public domain.

morarji dasai leaked raw’s mission in pakistan in a call with zia, who published it first?

  • The person who first published the account for a wide public audience was B. Raman, a former Additional Secretary in the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), in his 2007 book The Kaoboys of R&AW: Down Memory Lane.

The exact page number within B. Raman’s book The Kaoboys of R&AW: Down Memory Lane where the alleged Morarji Desai leak is mentioned can vary depending on the edition (hardcover, paperback, e-book).

However, the relevant incident is discussed in the chapter titled “The Pakistan Story”.

According to available summaries and snippets, the information is typically found within the early to mid-sections of that chapter, likely around pages 55-60 in many common print editions, where the details of the intelligence operation and its compromise are narrated. You would need to consult a specific copy of the book for the precise page number.

(Enmit/far left) Indian National Congress (INC) government and Pakistani nationalist (prodit) government even awarded Morarji Dasai for helping them.

Awards like:

Nishan-e-Pakistan award from Pakistan government

Bharat Ratna award from Indian National Congress

Morarji Desai was alive when he received the Nishan-e-Pakistan award.

He was awarded the Nishan-e-Pakistan in 1990 (with a ceremony in May 1990), at which point he was approximately 94 years old. He accepted the award in person.

The award was presented to him by the then-Pakistani High Commissioner in a special ceremony at his residence in Mumbai.

Morarji Desai was awarded the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian award, in 1991

He received the award in recognition of his exceptional contributions to the nation through a long and distinguished career in public service, which included:

  • Role in the Indian Independence Movement: He was a dedicated freedom fighter who actively participated in Mahatma Gandhi’s non-violent civil disobedience movements and underwent imprisonment multiple times.
  • Decades of Public Service: He held numerous significant government positions, including Chief Minister of Bombay State, Home Minister, Finance Minister (presenting 10 Union Budgets), and Deputy Prime Minister of India.
  • Commitment to Democratic Principles: After becoming Prime Minister in 1977, he was instrumental in restoring civil liberties and annulling many of the authoritarian legislations passed during the Emergency, making it difficult for a future government to impose an emergency easily.
  • Efforts for Peace and Diplomacy: His government worked to restore friendly relations with neighboring countries like China and Pakistan, and he was internationally known for his peace activism and commitment to avoiding armed conflict.

Morarji Desai received the Bharat Ratna for what we are officially told were his contributions to the Indian Independence Movement and decades of public service. However, in reality, Desai was awarded the Bharat Ratna for not taking sufficient action against Pakistan and other neighboring countries, especially Pakistan. This is why the far-left Indian National Congress political establishment handed over the Bharat Ratna to Morarji Desai. The stated reasons such as his role in the freedom struggle and public service are merely excuses used to portray him as a great human being. In contrast, his enmitic traits brought him awards like the Bharat Ratna and even Pakistan’s Nishan-e-Pakistan.
