DREAMS TOO BIG

DREAMS TOO BIG

Nixon always dreamt big; his ambitions were bigger than the ambitions of other children of his age. Instead of dreaming of a giant remote-control car or a lavish cake, Nixon dreamt of studying. No, Nixon wasn’t poor; his parents could easily afford a good education for him. Now, doesn’t the question arise that why he dreamt of studying when his parents could send him to a good school?

The above few lines were mentioned by Sameer’s mother and then she left the story midway and went to attend the person ringing the doorbell.

DADDY’S SURPRISE

It was Sameer’s father standing at the door with a broad smile on his face. He was welcomed by his wife. He asked her to immediately call Sameer. She hurriedly called Sameer. Sameer’s father lifted his 10-year-old son and showed him the tickets to Paris.

VISIT TO EIFFEL TOWER

Finally, the big day arrived and it was the time to see the exotic Eiffel Tower. Sameer and his parents were awestruck and the ambiance around was enthralling. Sameer’s father was busy clicking the pictures and meanwhile, Sameer questioned, “Mumma who has made this giant structure? Has some fairy made it as we read in the fairy tales?” “No, son this has been made by humans only!” “What? Human beings like me and you have made it?” “Yes, true!”

Sameer was amazed after seeing the wonderful structure and said to his mother, “Mumma, I also dream of making something so big or even bigger.” To this, his mother replied, “Yes son you can also do this provided you are focused and work with full zeal to accomplish your goal.”

RETURN FROM PARIS

After returning from Paris, Sameer still could not get over of imagining of building another Eiffel Tower or maybe something even better. Then he thought of his limitations as a child and this brought sadness on his face. Seeing him sad, his mother asked, “What happened Sameer?” “Mumma, remember Eiffel Tower?” “Yes, I do”, replied his mother. “Mumma I want to construct something even bigger but then I have my limitations; I am a young child and I don’t even know in what way I should proceed”, sighed Sameer.

“Dreams are not a slave of our limitations!”, said Sameer’s mother. “Well, do you remember Nixon?” “Oh yes, Mumma, I remember you were telling me a story about a boy named Nixon before we went to Paris.”  “Yes, and I left it halfway as your father brought in those tickets.” Sameer’s mother began retelling the story to her son.

STORY CONTINUED

She told her son that Nixon was a special child. He had low Intelligence Quotient and speech impairment. Even though the world considered him disabled, Nixon had a never-dying spirit. He wanted to study and had the aim of opening up a medical shop. Now, why a medical shop? The answer to Nixon will bring tears in all of our eyes. “I want to open up a medical shop so that I can help all suffering people by giving them medicines so that everyone is happy and the Earth becomes a joyful place to live in.”

A LESSON LEARNT

Sameer also started weeping to listen to Nixon’s dreams which were indeed not a slave of his limitations. We all have certain limitations but how beautifully we fight against them is what matters the most. In the end, his mother told him, “Where there is a will, there is always a way” and Sameer took an oath to strive hard to accomplish his dream of erecting a big monument.
