Delhi

Bloodless poets
And privileged laughter.

Insensitivity
And no acceptance
Became familiar fare to me
In this, the national capital.

Smiling Gandhis
On government buildings
Even as bodies burn
Became familiar fare to me
In this, the national capital.

Vikram changed everything, though,
In his elegant sari and easy humour
By him I shall remember you, Delhi,

And remind myself
That humanity
Thrives
In surprising places.
