THE LAST STEP

The Last Step

A poem by Hridik Kapinjal

I take breathless steps through the midnight,

In a place where love is refused.

Every single stride felt like the final one.

I traveled all the way to Nagaon,

Chasing the ghost of a first love.

It was a place where hell kissed heaven,

A memory from when I was only driven.

Standing under the Nagaon sky,

staring at the moon, Back when I thought I would live forever.

But I won’t return to that place. These are my final, chosen words, I swear I will never lie to you again.

A goodbye has never spoken this loudly, As everything begins to rise.
