A Prayer Unanswered
I asked for light, you gave me night,
Your stars like shattered glass, a broken sky.
You stole the sun before it could rise,
Leaving me to wander where shadows lie.
I stretched my hands to grasp the dawn,
But you sent winds to sweep it gone.
The ocean swells, its waves retreat—
A dance of loss beneath my feet.
Your habit of snatching, a thief in the mist,
Taking the warmth from my clenched fist.
I offered my hope, and you cast it away,
Now all that remains is the chill of the day.
I no longer ask for the stars or the sun,
For every bright gift is undone.
Let the storm rage, let it be,
What’s left, dear God, belongs to me.
