Short Story

REAL LOVE

She is an eighteen-year-old college student. Her father is no more. She lives under the care of her widowed mother, a daily wage labourer. She is a beautiful village girl—gentle in behaviour, intelligent in her studies, and active in extracurricular activities.

To her, her mother is a living goddess. She obeys her in every respect, without disagreement. Her widowed mother has placed all her hopes and dreams upon her daughter. Thus, life moves on in quiet tranquillity.

Meanwhile, she falls in love with a college mate. Her natural beauty and graceful demeanour draw him close to her. He is two years older and her senior in college.

One day, while they are chatting, he says gently:

“Dear, I like you very much. After completing my studies, I wish to marry you. My parents are well-placed government employees, and we have enough means to live comfortably.”

Then, with warmth and concern, he asks about her family.

Her heart trembles for a moment. In a soft voice, she replies:

“My family is very poor. My father passed away, and my mother is a labourer. I live only with her. We have no one else to support us.”

Without hesitation, he answers confidently:

“Dear, that does not matter to me at all. I fell in love with you, not with your family or your background. Even if my parents oppose our marriage, I will not surrender. After my higher studies, I will find a job and stand on my own feet. Your story has made me admire your heart even more.”

Hearing his words, joy blossoms within her. Her face glows like the moon, and she says gently:

“I do not know what the future holds. My mother is my guide and the one who decides every important matter in my life. I will never go against her wishes—not even for the greatest fortune on earth. That is the truth.”

He smiles and replies with quiet faith:

“Dear, if our love is sincere and pure, everything will be resolved for the good by the grace of the Supreme Power. Believe in that divine light with all your heart.”
