Every cloud has a sliver lining

When Mrs. Mackenzie entered the classrom full of noisy kids hopping here and there about, she silenced them with a long and authoritative stare to remind them of who’s the boss. The students fell silent and started greeting the teacher. Skye sat dreamily in her seat. The teacher was not happy when she noticed her and she rapped her desk with her bare knuckles. Skye was immediately snapped back to reality and apologised to the teacher. Jacob and his cronies started sniggering, but Skye was used to it. “I am sorry that I have failed to greet you miss. I was lost in deep thought.” She replied in her most apologetic tone. She was aware that every pair of eyes were fixed on her. Mrs. Mackenzie was satisfied by her honesty and returned back to her desk. She asked Skye to share what she felt deep in thought. She became nervous. Suddenly, she heard a soft whisper. It was her best friend, Carolina. she had whispered something that made Skye filled with new energy and confidence. “You’ve got this, you’re strong and fearless.” whispered Carolina. She narrated about how she felt when she saw the wild horses, gracefully galloping across the prairie. The whole class listened with rapt attention and awe. At the end of the narration, the whole class broke out into resounding applauses from the boys and the girls. Even Mrs. Mackenzie was impressed of the vivid details she narrated from her daydream. She appreciated her profusely. The boys’ sniggers had been silenced by the teacher’s wisdom on a positive note. Jacob immediately wanted to know about the wild horses since he heard Skye’s vivid story. His parents were wealthy enough to buy ten horses in a fortnight. After the hetic lessons and homeworks, it was lunch time. Skye loved lunch time because Carolina would gossip for fun with her. Jacob quickly seized the opportunity to engage and coax her into talking about the wild horses. When she was heartily feasting on her chicken sandwich, Jacob walked up to her desk and greeted her with a wide smile which made her suspicious. Surely, he was there for something from her. When he explained that he wanted to know about the horses, Skye became terriefied. One correct detail can result in a mistake beacuse if she revealed the whole secret, His parents would quickly catch the horses using animal control and sell them far from their homes. Every small detail carried big consequences that could put the horses in danger. Anxiety was bubbling up and butterflies fluttered in her stomach. Eventually, she found a solution to throw him off the track. “Um… You see.. These horses are government protected and there are strict regulations. These horses are tracked with GPS chips. Any sort of movement will be smartly detected. These horses belong to the wild, not your pocket.” She replied boldly, her voice full of courage. Jacob was taken aback for a moment. He naively fell for her fabricated story and walked away, shaken. Skye was relived that she saved the horses from danger of being sold faraway. She was happy and did a high-five with her best friend.
