The Prairie
When Skye woke up from the nightmare last night, she was in high spirits as it was a cool and pleasant cloudy holiday morning . She hurried to the bathroom for a quick rinse. She felt a tingle of excitement as the aroma of Mom preparing their favorite breakfast: sunny-side-up eggs and toast with jam, filled her nostrils and Papa preparing hot coffee. She smiled as she saw Skye hurry towards the bathroom. ” “She’s in a good mood today after the nightmare,” Mom thought. As Skye had a quick rinse, she wore her flowy pink t-shirt and blue jeans. She smiled, “Good morning, Mom!”, Mom smiled,”Good morning my dear sweetheart. Oh! Good morning Chris! It seems you enjoyed a cozy night.” She replied in a cheerful tone as Chris dragged his blankets across the floor, yawning and rubbing his eyes. After woffling her breakfast, she thought of exploring the prairie, but she hesitated for a moment. She hadn’t narrated the incident of the paperball fight embarassment as the scene came flooding to her memories. Mom saw the hesitation on her face and gently asked her, “Dear, you seem worried. Tell me what happened. The words were stuck in Skye’s throat. After choosing her words carefully, she narrated the whole incident,” Mom. Look, it may be irritating to hear but I had some ‘incidents’ at school and I am really sorry for not telling you earlier.” Mom immediately sensed that Skye had underwent some tension at school. “Don’t worry sweetheart. Speak your heart out. I will not inflict any punishment upon you.” Skye felt a moment of relief and started narrating the details from the paperball fight to the danger of revealing the secrets about the wild horses. Mom listened with rapt attention. Not wanting to spoil Skye’s holiday mood, ”Sweetheart, I understand that you experienced some tension at school. Let’s deal with it later. For now, go and indulge yourself in some fresh air walk.” She replied gently. Skye was really happy and she dashed across the hallway to the door, taking her notebook and her phone camera in her small backpack. She dashed 1 km away from her home, feeling the wind blow on her face and billowing her t shirt. After reaching the primary location, she was puffing and panting but she was happy that she had reached there. A cool and gentle breeze. The swaying of the prairie grass. The rays of the Sun intruding among the clouds. It was truly a beautiful scenery to gaze at.
