Pandit Jawawhar lal Nehru was made the Prime Minister in 1947. People used to talk about him very respectfully.

There were strikes in Calcutta by various people and unrest because of peasant demands. There was labour strike and workers strike also.

My father was not so regular in his office job .Whenever he used to go, Ram would accompany him and they would go for 4 hours and come back.

The situation was quite tense.Schools used to open only for 2 hours for 3 days every week. Mainly boys from the village and government accommodation used to avail the opportunity offered by the schools for study.
