Raised in the realm of the celestial sages, Svaha, daughter of Prajapati Daksha, knows that desires are obstacles to enlightenment. Yet she harbors a secret love for the god of fire and a fascination with rare, enchanted artifacts, both of which have no place in her chosen path of asceticism. So she keeps her passions hidden, flitting with equanimity between the dazzling, opulent kingdom of the gods and the stark, snowy abode of the sages. But when a single mistake involving a magical object sparks yet another skirmish between the Devas and the Asuras, Svaha realizes the seductive dangers of Maya and the wisdom of her parents’ path. As tensions escalate between the warring factions, she tries to right her course, away from it all, but too late – she finds herself entangled in ancient rivalries she cannot escape.
As she navigates the alien landscapes of the shadowy, ethereal netherworld, Svaha is forced to confront the increasingly blurred lines between the gods and the demons. Will she listen to her conscience, even if it means acting against the gods she has always served – and the god she has always loved?
