The Hilltop Temple

Exploring the spiritual tradition of Ancient India

The Hilltop Temple: For most of us, a time comes in life,  while we are in the thick of our careers, even when successful, we come face to face with questions about the meaning of our life and the relevance of what we do. People seldom talks about these feelings aloud, because they are too personal. Yet the soul yearns for some answers quickly as life passes by in a hurry. “The Hilltop Temple” is the story of a successful professor who finds himself in the same dilemma. His internal turmoil threatens to tear him apart. Then the miracle happens…

Padma Shri Jonas Masetti, Vedanta Acharya, Brazil (the Foreword) : Professor Rajiv K. Saxena presents us, through an engaging narrative, more than a simple fiction: he offers a profound journey through India’s philosophical traditions, culminating in a synthesis that reveals the perennial wisdom of Vedanta. I recommend this work not only to students of Indian philosophy, but to all those who face the tensions inherent in modern life: the search for meaning in a materialistic age, the need to reconcile scientific knowledge with spiritual wisdom, and the challenge of maintaining cultural integrity in a globalized world.

About the Author:

Professor Rajiv K. Saxena is a distinguished teacher and researcher in the fields of Biotechnology and Immunology. He has held several key academic positions, including Professor, Dean, and Pro-Vice Chancellor at Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. He also served as the founding Dean and Vice-President of South Asian University, New Delhi, where he currently holds the position of Emeritus Professor.

Beyond his scientific pursuits, Prof. Saxena has a deep and abiding interest in ancient Indian wisdom that evolved over several millennia on the Indian subcontinent. He translated the Srimad Bhagavad Gita into Hindi verses (Geeta Kavya Madhuri, Zorba Books, Gurugram) and adapted it into a simple, poetic narrative for children (Baal Geeta, Penguin Books).

In his current work, The Hilltop Temple, he weaves a unique and engaging narrative to introduce readers to the core ideas of Indian philosophical traditions-including Yoga and Vedanta-in a form accessible to the general reader.
