The Joys of Writing and Publishing My First Book

Sarbajit Roy

My journey into poetry began in the seventh grade, largely influenced by my father’s love for prose and poetry. His unpublished works served as a constant source of inspiration, particularly in my reflections on nature’s impact on life.

After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, I found myself in the picturesque town of Ghatsila, Jharkhand, in 1979. The town, adorned with natural beauty, featured distant hills and the serene Subarnarekha River. In the moonlight, the riverbanks created a breathtaking sight, and it was here that I began to write my poems, although they remained unpublished.

In 1984, I went to the United States for further studies and settled in El Paso, Texas, where I wrote some poetry. I published my poems in an anthology and developed the habit of composing regularly, earning a few certificates and awards along the way.

I returned to India in 2013 and moved to Koderma, a town nestled between lush green forests and magnificent hills. It was here that I published my book, “Flowers in the Sunshine.” I received an award at S7 Poetry and earned several certificates for my work.

I have published ten books in total, including a few children’s books. My first book, “Flowers in the Sunshine,” found its home with Zorba Books. Their belief in my work and their role as my first publisher have been a constant source of inspiration throughout my writing journey.

The exhilaration of publishing my first book with Zorba Books has been a cherished and joyful experience. This milestone paved the way for my subsequent publications and has left me with indelible memories and renewed energy. The fulfillment that comes from this achievement surpasses the numerous accolades and awards I have received, serving as an inspirational platform in the challenging journey of life.

The experience of publishing my first book has been thrilling and rewarding. The act of translating sublime thoughts into writing and eventually into a published work is a momentous experience that remains cherished throughout life.

Since publishing my first book, I have been honored with numerous accolades and awards, as well as certificates. The joy of creative expression, the positive reviews, and the lasting rewards motivate me to continue writing and crafting diverse works. I sincerely hope to keep embracing creativity, and I wish the same for every reader and aspiring writer.

I wish every reader and aspiring writer the very best. Your support and encouragement have been invaluable to me, and I am deeply grateful for it.
