Tawang is the cradle of Buddhism in the north-eastern part of the country, being the birthplace of His Holiness the Sixth Lama and home to the world famous Gaden Namgyal Lhatse, popularly known as the Tawang Monastery.
About The Author: Abhishek Dev is an IAS officer of the 2007 batch of the AGMUT cadre. He was posted to Tawang district as Deputy Commissioner on 14.01.2013 and is presently serving there. He is an alumnus of the St. Stephen’s College, Delhi and the Delhi School of Economics where he studied Economics. He has a wide interest in photography, travelling, cinema, badminton and reading.
Tsewang Norbu obtained his Master’s degree in Sociology from Punjab University, Chandigarh in 1984. He joined the Directorate of Research, Government of Arunachal Pradesh as District Research Officer. He has worked amongst the Galos of West Siang and the Monpas of Tawang. He has a book and a good number of research papers to his credit. He is presently working on the folklore of the Monpas.
